Our Pastor

Rev. Steve Skates came to Sonoraville in June of 2005. He is married to the former Elaine Sosebee, and has two sons, Eric and Philip, and two grandchildren, Gabe and Griffin.

Steve was saved and baptized at the age of ten at the Waterville Baptist Church in LaFayette, Georgia. He has been involved in church leadership since 1974, and answered the call to ministry in 1979.

He has since served as Minister of Music and Youth at the Ridgeway Baptist Church and the Walnut Grove Baptist Church in LaFayette, Georgia; Minister of Youth at the New Canaan Baptist Church in Dallas, Georgia; Minister of Youth and Education at the Meadowdale Baptist Church in Calhoun, Georgia; and as Pastor of the Hill Crest Baptist Church in Rome, Georgia.

Rev. Skates has also served on various committees and ministries of area Associations, including one term as Moderator of the Floyd County Baptist Association. Steve has participated in mission trips in Geneva and Rochester, New York, The Georgia Baptist Children's Home in Palmetto, Georgia, and in Piedras Negras, Mexico.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ministry Studies from Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, and an Associate of Divinity Degree in Religious Education Ministry from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana.
